SecuTABLET Specs & Features: New BlackBerry, Samsung, and IBM Tablet Featured at CeBit 2015

BlackBerry, Samsung, and IBM have collaborated to launch a new tablet, dubbed as the SecuTABLET. The upcoming device is based on Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, and comes with a state-of-the-art security communications suite developed by SecuSMART, which was acquired by BlackBerry last year.

However, the SecuTABLET is not meant for the general public, but will target "national and international public sector markets and enterprises." The device will allow the personal usage of popular social networking as well as instant messaging apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and others.

According to GSMArena, IBM has provided the secure app wrapping technology for the SecuTABLET. In fact, the tech solution provided by IBM will protect the sensitive data stored in the device even if malware is installed on it.

Meanwhile, Reuters says that BlackBerry unit Secusmart presented the SecuTABLET at the CeBIT 2015 tech fair in Germany recently. The device manifests the Canadian tech manufacturer's emphasis on secure connections for governments as well as businesses, as the company looks for maintaining a niche market after being drubbed by emerging smartphone manufacturers like Apple in recent years.

In fact, BlackBerry is under pressure to regain its lost ground with the release of the Passport phone late in 2014 and the Leap phone a few weeks ago, as well as acquiring Secusmart to strengthen its security. In recent times, the Canadian company has also collaborated with Samsung to combine its KNOX platform with SecuSUITE - a tool developed by Secusmart.

A statement released by Secusmart GmbH chief executive officer Dr. Hans-Christoph Quelle read, "Security is ingrained in every part of BlackBerry's portfolio, which includes voice and data encryption solutions."

The statement further said that the device was undergoing certification by the German Federal Office for Information Security for secure rating, adding that the latest tablet employed the same security technology used by the Secusmart Security Card.
