‘Scream’ Season 2 News: MTV Renews Horror Television Series for Second Season
MTV executive vice-president (Series Development) and Head of Scripted Programming, Mina Lefevre issued a press release on Wednesday announcing that the network has already renewed the horror television series 'Scream' for its second season. The announcement comes in the wake of the ever increasing audience demand for their daily spell of mystery and murder.
Citing a report in Deadline, Latin Post states that when the series, which is a reboot of the hit 1996 film by Wes Craven, premiered on June 30 this year, the rating was very modest. Nevertheless, the show increased its reach by over 60 percent and now MTV has decided to renew it up for a second season even before the first season has wrapped up.
In the initial days of this horror television series, the average audience in the 12 to 34 demographic was 687,000. Now, that average has increased to 997,000. In fact, this also includes a total of 1.563 million viewers for the premiere of the show across all demographics.
However, this is not natural for a freshman series, it has happened on earlier occasions also. The ratings for 'Scream' have increased to 21 million viewers, according to data provided by Nielson Measurements.
Nielson uses a "Live Plus 3" (L+3) model that essentially measures the audience that have watched the episode live as well as the audience that recorded the show on DVR and watched it within three days of its live air.
Announcing the renewal of 'Scream' for a second season, Lefevre stated in the press release, "It has been a wonderful experience working with Bob Weinstein and his team who are such connoisseurs of this genre and we are thrilled by how our viewers have responded to the reinvention of 'Scream.' We look forward to another season filled with suspense, horror and more twists and turns."
The Weinstein Company co-chairman Bob Weinstein also commented on the release.
According to Weinstein, "We couldn't be happier 'Scream' has been renewed for a second season and that we have a wonderful working relationship with Doug Herzog, Stephen Friedman, Susanne Daniels, Mina Lefevre and her team."
