‘Scandal’ Season 5 Spoilers, News: Jaw-dropping Trailer Shows Fitz Handing Divorce Papers to Mellie [VIDEO]

Even as a few weeks remain for the premiere of 'Scandal' Season 5 on ABC, the show runners have released a brand new trailer of the show with a view to let the fans have a glimpse of what they can expect in the upcoming season of the American political thriller television series.

A report in IB Times states that the promo video presents everything that the Olitz shippers have been longing for since the 'Scandal' Season 4 finale. It has everything right from a steamy roll around the sheets to making eyes across a crowded room. Apparently, things have never been better for Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Fitz (Tony Goldwyn). However, 'Scandal' is everything, but about fairytale endings. In fact, being a Shondaland show, it needs to have some serious drama mixed in.

The trailer shows an upset Mellie (Bellamy Young), a crying Huck (Guillermo Diaz) and a tremendously mad looking Abby (Darby Stanchfield) sneering at Cyrus (Jeff Perry). Nevertheless, it is the final line of the trailer that will actually be the talking point.

The trailer ends with Fitz telling Mellie, "I'm divorcing you." Subsequently, he hands her the papers.

In 'Scandal' Season 4 finale, fans saw Olivia and her team working to humiliate her father, Rowan (Joe Morton) and B613. It appeared as if Rowan had everyone in his pocket, as Olivia made numerous futile attempts to expose B613 for the treacherous government organization that it was. Nevertheless, finally Olivia ended up gaining the upper hand.

Eventually, Rowan was forced to down shutters on B613 and assassinate all his agents. After B613 gone, Rowan was just an "innocent old man" named Eli Pope that worked at the Smithsonian. However, even that still wasn't enough for Olivia after all for all the things her father had done over the years. With assistance from Huck, Olivia was successful in framing Eli for stealing money from the Smithsonian.

According to the report, when it came to taking down her father, Olivia got her happy ending, but things crumbled for Mellie. Fitz discovered that Mellie had worked with Rowan with the aim of securing her win for the Virginia Senate seat as well as ensuring that his "Operation Remington" secret never got out. Fitz threw Mellie of the house, promising that he would do everything to prevent her from becoming President after what she did. However, this was not the only big shocker, as Fitz also fired Cyrus from the post of the White House Chief of Staff.

When Olivia showed up at the White House in the concluding moments of 'Scandal' Season 4 finale, it seemed as if Olitz was back on for good.

'Scandal' Season 5 premieres on ABC on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
