'Scandal' Season 5 Spoilers: Millie’s Future Uncertain with Very Few Options Left
Fans of 'Scandal' will now have to wait less than a month to known the fate of their favorite characters Olivia Pope, portrayed by Kerry Washington, and President Grant, played by Tony Goldwyn, as the popular political thriller television drama series is set to return for its fifth season on ABC on Sept. 24.
According to Latin Post, at the end of 'Scandal' Season 4, things were looking good for Pope and Pres, who were making out on the White House balcony, acting cheerfully erotic regarding their future as the tune "Here Come the Sun" played on in the background.
Then again, things were not going so well for Grant's wife Mellie (Bellamy Young) who was kicked out of the White House just some moments before. The 45-year-old Young recently shared the emotional tug-of-war experienced by her character.
In an interview with TV Line, Young lamented the circumstances faced by her character Millie, saying, "Poor Mellie, man... It should be the best time in the world - she got her senate seat! - But it's like the worst, because Fitz kicked her out. And he was so cold when he did it."
In fact, Mellie is not surprised that her husband President Grant would be seeking comfort in Olivia's arms. "She knows in her heart that Fitz has Olivia are on speed dial as the door is shutting behind her," Young said informing 'Scandal' fans that Season 5 "starts out in a world of hurt for Mellie."
The character has not only gone through the wringer, but she also had to cope with the death of her child Jerry Jr. "There is no greater pain than losing a child, but she's absolutely devastated," Young explains, adding, "She's having to regroup, but she's sort of by herself completely, because everyone is alienated at this point."
Notwithstanding all these, Young still sees Mellie as a survivor. The actress says, "She's never going to give up without a fight - I mean, she's Mellie! - but a lot of options are no longer open to her."
Meanwhile, 'Scandal' creator Shonda Rhimes has just sold another series to ABC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is called 'Brides of Christ' and it centers on a group of nuns fighting the closure of their Bronx-based convent, while coping with the shortcomings of some novice nuns, who joined the cloister recently.
'Scandal' Season 5 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 9:00 p.m on ABC.
