Sandra Lee News Update: NY Governor Andrew Cuomo's Partner Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

Sandra Lee, partner of New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Shortly after receiving her diagnosis, Lee called her younger sister, both asking for her support, and for her to tell their other siblings to get themselves tested for the disease as well.

Lee, a celebrity chef, told People magazine that she has always been the caregiver in the family, especially interested in her nieces and nephews.

In fact, she had been spending a lot of time planning a huge graduation party for her niece who will be the family's first college graduate.

She has also been making travel plans for all of her nieces and nephews, and even was able to rescue a baby seal on the beach.

After she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), her partner, Governor Cuomo, took her to Turks and Caicos for three days.

The couple has been together for 10 years, and he knew that Lee would feel most relaxed on the beach and in the sun.

"Sandy and I were both still reeling from the news," said Governor Cuomo to People, "I knew Sandy needed a break and we needed to be in a place that allowed us to focus on her and how we would handle her diagnosis."

In preparation of her sister's double mastectomy, Kimber, Lee's sister has left her family back in Seattle in order to spend a month giving her sister support as she recovers from her surgery.

Kimber told People magazine, "She doesn't need many things. So when she does, I want to be there for her.
