Sandra Lee News: 'Semi Homemade Cooking' Star Lee Shows Positive Attitude With Thumbs-Up Outside Hospital
On the way out of the hospital a day after surgery, The Food Network chef Sandra Lee gave a cheery thumbs up to photographers to reassure everyone that she was okay.
Lee, 48, was escorted by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, her long-time partner, on Wednesday. She had been in hospital for several days to deal with complications from a double mastectomy.
A social media post written by her team early Wednesday stated that Lee was "up and energized" and "determined to go home today, even if that means 'hosting' a pick line or med line for IV infusions, as she must stay on massive antibiotics for a couple of weeks to fight against infection."
They added, "What can we say? The girl simply wants to GO HOME!!"
PEOPLE was told by Lee's representative that she will have a home nurse for the next couple of weeks, and she will continue the antibiotic treatments via a PICC line (peripherally inserted central catheter) that will be overseen by the nurse.
Lee, whose The Food Network shows Semi-Homemade Cooking and Sandra's Money Saving Mealshave top ratings, announced that she had breast cancer this past May.
"I didn't even cry: I was stunned," Lee said on Good Morning America. "And that's just how fast life turns. It turns on a dime." She had a double mastectomy soon after the announcement.
Gov. Cuomo said in his official statement: "I was devastated. Thankfully this was detected in the early stages."
Cuomo and Lee started their relationship in 2005 and are currently living together. Gov. Cuomo's daughters from a previous marriage also live with them in Westchester County, New York.
