Sandra Lee Latest News: Celebrity Chef Postpones Double Mastectomy Surgery
Just a few days after announcing that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, Sandra Lee has made the decision to hold off on her double mastectomy as she is battling an upper respiratory infection.
She has chosen to delay the surgery until she recovers. Lee, 48 years old, shared this new information with her Facebook fans on Wednesday.
In her post, she wrote, "Although I've been on antibiotics hoping that it would clear up so I could move forward with my procedure this Thursday, the doctors think it best for me to postpone my operation until early next week. I thank you all so so so much for your kind messages and loving thoughts."
On Tuesday, the celebrity chef discussed her diagnosis with People.
She said that it made her realize that life can change at any moment, and that her new focus is to spread the word about early detection.
Lee's partner of ten years, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, has said that he will take some time off in order to help take care of her.
"A situation like this quickly puts life in the proper perspective and reminds one of what's truly important," said Cuomo in a statement. At hearing the news, Cuomo said that he was "devastated."
He says that he wants to stay with Lee through every step of her treatment, and offering her support as she deals with her surgery as well as the recovery period. "I expect to take some personal time," stated Cuomo.
