San Francisco 49ers NFL News, Rumors 2014: Head Coach Jim Harbaugh Leaving for Michigan?
After last week's loss, rumors are spreading fast about a possible replacement for San Francisco 49ers head coach, Jim Harbaugh. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the team is looking for a "young offensive specialist" as their next head coach, and Harbaugh is being moved elsewhere.
Harbaugh declined to respond to the allegations that he has been weighing an offer from Michigan, his alma mater. "I'll only talk about the job that I have", Harbaugh says on the rumors, "We've been together a long time and it's a longstanding policy."
With only one season remaining on his five-year contract, several media outlets, including ESPN and NFL, have reported a six-year offer to return to Ann Arbor. Despite the offer, Harbaugh insists that he hasn't let outside issues affect him throughout the season. He will not be making a decision until after the season.
"I have said that I'm going to finish this 'til the end," Harbaugh said about his intentions to coach through his contract.
With two games to go for the 49ers, the well-known coach wants to focus on the players, the field, and the game. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman notes that everybody, especially the coach, wants the season to end on a positive note despite outside gossip. Even now, Harbaugh refuses to touch on whether he leans toward Michigan University.
As for the 49ers, word has been going around about Jim Tomsula is the first name in the running to replace Jim Harbaugh. Unfortunately, with the need for a balance between a strong offensive and defensive mind, Jim Tomsula may not be the right man for the job.
Until Harbaugh's contract is up, we will not know which coach will be next to take on the San Francisco 49ers.
