Choice number one is Vic Fangio, the current defensive coordinator. Fangio interviewed with his superiors on Tuesday for the position. The promotion would mean that the former coordinator would make his first step as a head coach after several years transforming the 49ers into one of the best defensive units in the NFL. Unfortunately, Fangio's strength in defense will not help the team's weakness in offense. This year, the 49ers have missed the playoffs due to big issues on the offensive line, and a strong offensive leader may be necessary to counteract those problems.

The second choice, Adam Gase, could help the team focus on their offensive strategies. He is the current offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos and has a remarkable reputation. This candidate was reportedly the brain behind the highest scoring offense in NFL history.

Teryl Austin, an NFL assistant for the Detroit Lion, could be choice number three. Austin has not spoken on his opinion on the matter, but he did mention that his availability to sit down with the 49ers depends on whether the Lions win the postseason.
