San Antonio Spurs NBA 2015 News: LaMarcus Aldridge Agrees to Sign with Spurs

The rich just got richer. The San Antonio Spurs, who looked like one of the favorites to win the title before surrendering a 3-2 series lead in their first round matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers, is poised to get even better as LaMarcus Aldridge has agreed to sign a four-year, $80 million maximum contract with the five-time world champions.

"I'm happy to say I'm going home to Texas and will be a Spur!! Aldridge wrote Saturday on Twitter. "I'm excited to join the team and be close to my family and friends."

The soon to be 30-year-old was one of the bigger free agent names that entered free agency this season, and had a number of teams interested in acquiring his services. He ultimately decided between the Spurs and the Phoenix Suns, as both teams made a series of moves to accommodate the All-Star's max contract.

The No. 2 overall pick of the 2006 NBA Draft has made the All-Star team in a loaded Western Conference in each of the last four seasons. He was named to the All-NBA second team this past season, while averaging a career-best 23.4 points, along with 10.2 rebounds and one block per game.

The Spurs are expected to be even more of a title favorite with Aldridge in the fold, and agreeing to deals with reigning Defensive Player of the Year Kawhi Leonard, and three-and-D specialist Danny Green. Tim Duncan has also announced his intention to return, while the Spurs are confident Manu Ginobili will do the same after the moves the team had made.

And the Spurs don't appear to be done just yet.

As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Spurs are "aggressively pursuing" free agent forward David West. West earlier opted out of his $12.6 million player option with the Indiana Pacers, saying he was more concerned with trying to win a championship.

West is reportedly deciding on whether to play for the Spurs, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Washington Wizards.
