Samsung Gear S2 News: South Korean Tech Titan Reveals New Smartwatch before IFA Debut
Following several months of speculations and rumors, Samsung has eventually displayed its upcoming flagship smartwatch, called Gear S2. The new smartwatch was shown off for a brief while during the launch of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6+ at its "Unpacked" press event in New York.
Slated for official released at the IFA technology trade show in Berlin in September, the Samsung Gear S2 was first shown by Samsung as part of a fashion photo-shoot hours after the launch of the two new handsets. According to IB Times, the upcoming watch has a round screen, different from the square Gear S and Apple Watch, and seems to be running Samsung's Tizen operating system, instead of Android Wear, which is preferred by its rivals.
While the smartwatch is displayed in white and black color options, one would not be surprised if there is a gold one too - and with a silver finish around the face. The home screen of the device shows a circular selection of app icons, counting a calendar, phone, weather, messaging, voice recording, running, Nike+ in addition to settings applications. Another brief glimpse demonstrated a watch face that appears similar to a radar screen.
Some hours after the "Unpacked" event, Samsung published a supposed fashion 'Lookbook' online, boasting the two new phones as well as the Gear S2, in addition to a group of all-female models dressed in bizarre clothing. With the Gear S2, it seems Samsung is going down the fashion route - a smart move considering the thick and technology-heavy looks of its first smartwatch range.
However, the battery life of upcoming smartwatch will be of equal importance as well as its utility, since consumers are still not aware of how their smartwatch will supplement their smartphone. Incidentally, despite being premium products, the Apple Watch cannot manage two full days between charges.
Meanwhile, Samsung will hold a press event at IFA though the company is yet to announce the precise date and time. Samsung fans can wait till then to get further details about Gear S2.
