Samsung Gear S2 Specs News: New Smartwatch to Come in Two Variants, Rotating Bezel, Voice Capability, & iOS Compatibility

South Korean tech titan Samsung has just announced its much-awaited Gear S2 smartwatch, which will come in two variants - Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. The wearable will run on Samsung proprietary Tizen operating system and be launched at the Berlin IFA 2015 event on Sept. 3.

IB Times reports that the original Samsung Gear S2 will seemingly come in a dark gray case with black silicon band. It will also be available in a silver case with white silicon band. Conversely, the Gear S2 Classic variant will reportedly be made available with a black case and a matching genuine leather band. Both the devices feature a minimalist look with modern design outlook. It is expected that these smart watches apparently come with IP68 rating for dust and water-resistance.

In terms of specifications, the Samsung Gear S2 boasts a 1.2-inch fully circular Super AMOLED display, packed with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels, which translates to a pixel density of 302 ppi. Under the hood, the smartwatch is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core CPU and supported by 512 MB of RAM.

The Gear S2 will be equipped with 4 GB of built-in storage capacity and, as far as connectivity is concerned, the device will support Wi-Fi: 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1 and NFC.

It is expected that one of the two Gear S2 variants will support 3G connectivity together with e-SIM capability. Samsung claims that this e-SIM will feature voice capability, which can be used to perform quick functions even without interacting with the paired handset.

In addition, the Gear S2 will pack a 250 mAh battery unit, providing 2 to 3 days of normal usage, after a full-charge. Nevertheless, the 3G model of Gear S2 will reportedly accommodate a bigger 300 mAh battery with two days of battery life, in addition to supporting Wireless Charging capability.
