Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 vs Galaxy Tab 2: Specs & Price Comparison

It's hard to decide whether to buy the latest version of a gadget or the relatively less expensive previous version. It's a trend with most electronics, the PSP came in three versions and consumers struggled with the choices; phones fair no better with newer versions coming out almost every year.

The following information compares the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and the newer Galaxy Tab 3.

Both the Galaxy Tab 2 and 3 come with the same screen size, at 7-inches with the same 1024 x 600 resolution. The only difference between the two tablets is the screen technology. The Galaxy Tab 2 comes with PLS LCD touch screen while the Galaxy Tab 3 comes with the TFT touch screen.

The hardware difference between the two tablets is small. The Galaxy Tab 2 sports a 1GHz dual-core processor and a TI OMAP 4430 chipset. The Galaxy Tab 3 comes with a slightly more powerful 1.2GHz dual-core processor with the same chip. Both come with 8GB, 16GB and 32GB internal memory variants and run on Android.

The camera for both tablets is the same, a 3MP rear facing camera. Galaxy Tab 3 however, has an autofocus feature that is absent with the Galaxy Tab 2. The front facing camera for the Tab 2 is only a VGA camera while the Tab 3 has a 1.3MP camera.

The Galaxy Tab 2 8GB variant goes for around $200, with a 16GB variant going for $350. The Galaxy Tab 3 8GB variant is priced at around $250 while the 16GB variant goes for a surprising $320. Between the two tablets, it may be wise to go with less expensive Galaxy Tab 2 since the Galaxy Tab 3 is not much of an improvement.
