Samsung Galaxy S6 Price Range Rumors: High-End Models of Upcoming Smartphone to Cost Over $1,000?

If some online reports are to be believed, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 may cost as much as $1,000! This may be particularly true if one is opting for a model having a curved display with increased memory capacity.

An anonymous European mobile carrier told tech website Ars Technica that the price of a few models of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 as well as the curved display Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones may possibly be higher than $1,000. According to speculations, these devices are likely to come in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB models and they may cost €749/ $849, €849/ $963, and €949/ $1,076 respectively.

Similarly, the Galaxy S6 Edge 32GB version may cost €849/ $963, while the 64GB model may be priced at €949/ $1,076 and the 128GB model may be available for €1,049/ $1,189.

Now, there are two aspects to this pricing - first, these reports are still unconfirmed and, second, the pricing pattern in Europe is much different from U.S. pricing. Hence, one can simply guess the final pricing of these devices.

For instance, the base model Samsung Galaxy S5 was priced at the same 650 both in euros as well as in U.S dollars. Nevertheless, if Samsung increases the prices of the new devices in the Galaxy lineup and their various models, it is quite reasonable when one considers the likely introduction of latest and improved specifications. In fact, it is expected that even the original Galaxy S6 model will sport a curved display design, apart from a metal frame - something new for Samsung's flagship line.

According to the report, Samsung has already increased the prices of its recent phones to near $1,000. For instance, Galaxy Note Edge smartphone of the South Korean tech giant currently sells for about $950; a two-year contract for the device is a massive $399.99 - more than $200 compared to the regular contract pricing for any Galaxy S smartphone. The steep price is just because the Galaxy Note Edge smartphone sports a curved display on one side. Hence, just imagine the price if the rumors are true and the Galaxy S6 Edge really comes with a dual-curved display.

Meanwhile, the company has already said that it will announce the Galaxy S6 at a special press meet in Barcelona on March 1, just before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 early next month.
