Sam Smith News: Singer Finally Confirms Singing New James Bond Theme

After being shrouded in mystery, rumors and denials, British pop star Sam Smith has emerged as the chosen artist to record the theme song for the new James Bond movie, "Spectre."

After denying the rumors for a while, the 23-year-old Smith took to Twitter what he calls a career milestone.

"This is one of the highlights of my career," wrote the multi-awarded singer Tuesday. "I am honored to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations."

As noted by an Associated Press reports, just last week, Smith denied being part of the new Bond film, which opens in October starring Daniel Craig as the charismatic secret agent.

The AP reports that the track "Writing's On The Wall," was recorded way back in January, but was kept under wraps until Smith's announcement.

"It's a relief," Smith told the AP. "I have been lying for a long time. I have known for a year so it is amazing to talk about it."

The Grammy Award winner also disclosed that he had already shot a music video for "Writing's On The Wall," though he admitted to not yet meeting the "Spectre" star.

"I was with [director] Sam Mendes the other day and he said that Daniel has heard the song and that he likes it so I'm looking forward to meeting him."

The star-studded lineup of artists that have performed previous Bond themes include Adele, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Shirley Bassey, among others.

As noted by the report, despite having numerous famous musicians play the part of Bond theme singer, few have matched the staying power that Bassey's "Goldfinger" theme and McCartney's "Live and Let Die" have reached.
