Rowan Atkinson New Movie News: Actor to Star as As Iconic Detective ‘Maigret’ For ITV

Famous actor Rowan Atkinson will be starring in the remake of the French detective series "Maigret', according to ITV. Television director, Peter Fincham has commissioned the making of two stand-alone dramatic films featuring the detective Maigret, with Atkinson playing the part.

The first film, which will be 120 minutes long and set in the 1950s in Paris, is all set to go into production in September 2015. The script for the movie will be written by Stewart Harcourt and produced by Jeremy Gwilt. The Executive Producers are Barnaby Thompson and Ben Latham-Jones for Ealing Studios, John Simenon for Maigret Productions, and Stewart Harcourt.

The first of the two films, Maigret Sets A Trap and Maigret's Dead Man, will go into production, produced by Ealing Studios and Maigret Productions Ltd (a Peters Fraser Dunlop Group company) and commissioned by ITV's Director of Drama, Steve November, and Controller of Drama, Victoria Fea.

The plot is taken from novels written by Belgian writer Simenon such as Pietr-le-Letton.

Talking about his role as Maigret, Rowan Atkinson said "I have been a devourer of the Maigret novels for many years and I'm very much looking forward to playing such an intriguing character, at work in Paris during a fascinating period in its history," according to ITV.

ITV's Director of Television Peter Fincham speaking about the two movies said "Maigret is a prestigious commission and we're delighted to be working with Maigret Productions, Ealing Studios and Rowan Atkinson, to bring these stories to screen for our viewers," according to ITV.
