Rousey vs Holm Fight 2015 News: Bout Rescheduled for UFC 193
UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler suffered a thumb injury in training that forced him to pull out of his UFC 193 title fight against Carlos Condit, Fox Sports reports.
The fight was scheduled as the main event for the pay-per-view event in Melbourne, Australia. In the wake of the news, UFC president Dana White quickly turned to UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey to fill the void.
Rousey was slated to defend her title against Holly Holm at UFC 195. That matchup has now been bumped to headline the Australia event.
"I swear on my life, I called her today when I thought something might happen and I said to her, "Hypothetically speaking,"¦'" White told Yahoo Sports. "She interrupts me and said, "I'll do whatever you need me to do.' So I laugh and I'm telling her how much I love that attitude and I'm going on and she stops me again and says, "Hey, so what is up? What do you need?' She's incredible. In 15 years of doing this, I've never seen anyone remotely like this woman."
UFC 193 is slated to be held in the 90,000-seat Etihad Stadium. White added that he is looking to set a new attendance record for an MMA event with the UFC's highest-paid fighter headlining the card.
"Ronda Rousey was huge for us down in Brazil, she was well received there," White said in a "SportsCenter" appearance. "It did very well on pay-per-view here in the United States, and she's obviously a huge superstar fro us. Australia is an important market for us, so we're going to bring her out there in our first real big stadium show, and we know she'll break the record."
As for UFC 195, White hasn't decided whether to shift the Lawler-Condit fight to the Las Vegas event.
"I just have to rethink all of this," White said. "There are a lot of ways we can go, but we'll make this a kick-ass event and we'll get back at it and figure it out and do the same thing with that."
