UFC 184 Ronda Rousey vs Cat Zingano News: 'Tough' Battle End in Record 14 Seconds
It was sold as the toughest challenge to UFC Women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey's dominant unbeaten run in the sport of MMA. The athleticism, the experience, and the striking of Cat Zingano were supposed to push the most dominant fighter in the world to unknown limits.
14 seconds, and another arm bar submission victory later, not only did Zingano fail on any of those promises; she became the victim of the quickest finish in UFC championship history.
"We expected she might come out flying," said Rousey in the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, referring to the failed flying knee attempt by the previously undefeated Zingano right off the bell.
After the flying knee, Zingano was able to flip the former Olympian down, but in a blink of an eye, Rousey flipped the position.
"Rowdy" got control of the neck, saw an arm, extended it, turned her hips, and got the tap.
"She had my arm and I saw her leg, I thought to grab hold of it and all of a sudden, I was tapping," a shocked Zingano told Rogan.
With the win, Rousey has dominated all five of the top-five contenders in her division, with her last two wins lasting a combined 30 seconds.
Miesha Tate, who has lost to Rousey in the UFC twice, has been the only one to get out of the first round, pushing the champion to the third round in UFC 168 back in 2013.
With no one seemingly ready to offer a realistic challenge to Rousey, there has been talk of former Strikeforce champion Cristiane Justino coming to the UFC to face the best women's MMA fighter in history.
"Call Lorenzo on Monday. Talk to him," said UFC president Dana White deferring to UFC chairman and CEO Lorenzo Ferttita when asked about Justino coming over to the UFC.
