Ronda Rousey UFC 2015 News: ‘Cyborg’ to Drop to 140 Pounds for Catchweight Fight
The fight that everyone wants to see in the world of MMA is undoubtedly UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey against Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris "Cyborg" Justino. Rousey has said time and again that if that fight were to happen, Justino would have to drop down to 135 pounds. And while "Cyborg" has yet to oblige, she will be dropping down to 140 pounds for her next fight.
As announced by Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp on Saturday, Justino will be fighting at a catchweight fight this November. An opponent, specific date, and a venue has yet to be announced, but everyone in the MMA world is already excited by the fact that Justino has taken the first step toward possibly making the Rousey fight a reality.
Justino has long dominated the women's 145-pound division, while Rousey has done the same in the 135-pound field. With women's MMA continuing to get immensely popular, and with Rousey establishing herself as the UFC's biggest star, a "Rowdy" vs. "Cyborg" headlined card is expected to be a massive one.
At the Invicta FC 14 post-fight press conference, Knapp also announced that strawweight champion Livia Ranata Souza will also be putting her title on the line against Alexa Grasso on the same Invicta FC 15 fight card in November. The two were scheduled to face off during this past weekend's Invicta 14 in Kansas City, but an injury forced Grasso out of the fight.
Meanwhile, Rousey is scheduled to headline an unprecedented card at UFC 193, which is slated to be held at the colossal Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. She will be fighting undefeated MMA fighter and former boxing world champion Holly Holm (9-0). The card will be the first time two women's title will be on the line as UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is set to defend her title against Valerie Letourneai.
