Ronda Rousey News: Champ Announces UFC 195 Fight Versus Holly Holm

During an appearance on "Good Morning America" Friday, UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey revealed that instead of the expected trilogy with Miesha Tate, she'd instead be facing Holly Holm on Jan. 2 at UFC 195 in Las Vegas.

"January 2, I'll be fighting Holly Holm, who's the most decorated striker we have in all of mixed martial arts," the undefeated champion said. "Not the women's division, not the bantamweight division. She's a 19-time boxing champion. Holly Holm was The Ring magazine pound-for-pound Fighter of the Year, and definitely my biggest challenge to date."

The announcement came as somewhat of a shock to fans that thought Tate was next in line for the dominant champion.

Explained UFC president Dana White, "We were talking about Miesha from the start, then as we started sitting around we were saying, "Everyone has seen the Miesha fight already.' A third fight in a rivalry usually comes after the stuff we'd see in [Arturo] Gatti-[Micky] Ward. With Miesha, the result has been the same twice. Everyone's already seen that fight."

Adding, "I'm, not sure losing another fight to Ronda so soon would be good for Miesha."

The 33-year-old Holm has just two fights in the UFC (both decision wins) and is 9-0 overall in her relatively young MMA career. As a professional boxer, she compiled a record of 33 wins (9 knockouts, 23 decisions), 2 losses and 3 draws.

When the "Good Morning America" hosts teased Rousey, questioning why anyone would watch that fight when she ends them so quickly, she had this to say: "Nobody's easy until after you beat them."

With Holly Holm, she's the type that's ready to go 12 boxing rounds. She's not the average chick that I'd fight. She is the best striker I've ever fought and the striking is something I learned much later in my career. I don't ever expect fights to be easy and fast."
