Robert De Niro News: Actor Gives Brutally Honest Speech at NYU Tisch School of Arts Graduation

The NYU Tisch School of Arts graduating class of 2015 were fortunate enough to have the Oscar winning actor Robert De Niro to give their commencement speech.

In an eye-opening fashion, De Niro started off his speech with stating, "Tisch graduates, you made it, and, you're f****d."

The actor's brutal honesty won in some laughs in the crowd, however he continues to drop some real harsh realities on the students who just graduated with art degrees.

The class that consisted aspiring actors, dancers, directors, and writers were apparently in for a rough wake up call, although De Niro did commend them for pursuing passion over stability.

"You discovered a talent, developed an ambition, and recognized your passion," he said. "When you feel that you can't fight it, you just go for it. When it comes to the arts, passion should always trump common sense."

"Yeah you're f****d," De Niro reiterated. "The good news is, that's not a bad place to start. Now that you've made your choice, or rather succumbed to it, your path is clear. It's not easy, but clear. You have to keep working; it's that simple."

He then gave a students a hard lesson in rejection, as he warned that they would need it. He followed with a joke about him still dealing with rejection.

"De Niro continued with an inspiring and hilarious speech from the ceremony-revealing he didn't quite land the role of Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma, as well as telling stories from his career that actually happened," writes EW.''

The ceremony was held at Madison Square Garden and can be viewed on Tisch's website.
