Christian music fans are in for a new experience with the release of Roadshow - The Film.
This movie will be a documentary style film about one of Christian music's most popular (and affordable) annual tours called, The Rock & Worship Roadshow.
The Rock n' Worship Roadshow was the brainchild of Mercy Me who wanted an affordable concert experience for people who might not have the money to spend on a high priced ticket. The Roadshow has kept the tickets to just $10 a piece, all general admission.
The bands touring with Mercy Me on the Roadshow have varied through out the years, but the bands who toured for 2013 and will be on the film are Mercy Me, Jeremy Camp, Tedashii, Kutless, Family Force 5, Luminate, Rhett Walker Band, Adam Cappa, and Tim Simmons.
Roadshow - The Film, sponsored by Grand Canyon University, will reveal a story of self-sacrifice, hard work and, most importantly, a group of people coming together to be part of something bigger than themselves. By pledging money to support the project, fans play an integral part in the creation of the documentary, as well as receive a variety of special rewards.
"From catering to lighting rigs, audio load in and life on a bus, it takes a village to pull everything together for an artist to walk on stage and put on an amazing show for the fans," producer Ryan Smith says. "We are thrilled to be putting together this feature-length documentary that will give a behind-the-scenes look at a major tour."
Roadshow - The Film is being filmed in 20 cities, including Dallas, TX today, February 15 by a crew helmed by producers Brody Harper and Ryan Slaughter of Two Seven Two Media, Ryan Smith of MountView Creative and director Matt Underwood. The film will premier this fall on the Grand Canyon University campus in Phoenix, Ariz.
"Tours happen all over the world and most people have no idea the hoops that were jumped through to make them happen," Harper says. "From bus problems to weather, there are hundreds of things that can shut down a concert, but it takes a great group of artists and crew to make it happen. We hope to capture some of that process and let people see more than just what goes on on stage."
The film was backed through Kickstarter, with fans offering pledge of $1 on up to help contribute to making the film happen and getting different incentives for different pledge amounts.
The film has not yet set an official release date, but will be out fall of 2013.
