'Rise Of The Tomb Raider' PS4 Review, News & Update: Rollicking Story, Powerful Villains, Spectacular Views
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" comes to PlayStation 4 with all of its existing DLC and new content, including a cool VR add-on. For someone who has not played through Lara Croft's most recent adventure, this one is absolutely worth picking up.
The exploration spaces of this sequel are three times larger than they were in the last games, but game director Brian Horton assured players in a recent interview that it will still be a "seamless experience." Its core campaign also takes between 15 and 20 hours to complete, but there is over 40 hours of gameplay and exploration available for completionists.
As for the DLC, "Rise of the Tomb Raider" includes the Endurance mode, Baba Yoga Tomb DLC, and Cold Darkness Awakened. Players of the game also have the opportunity to replay them with extra challenges, namely, Chapter Replay, Chapter Replay Elite, Score Attack and Remnant Resistance.
The PS4 version of the game comes with a new title, "Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration." PS4 owners also get all the Season Pass DLC, a new story called Blood Ties, PSVR support, the Endurance mode, more outfits and weapons, as well as Expedition Cards.
Blood Tiles, which was not previously released with the Xbox Season Pass, will be made available as soon as the PS4 copy of the game is released on October 11, 2016.
IGN rated "Rise of the Tomb Raider" 9.3 and praised it for its ripping adventure story, powerful villains and spectacular views.
Speaking about the sequel to the 2013 reboot, IGN noted, "'Rise of the Tomb Raider' raises the bar set by Lara's last outing with a rollicking adventure story, strong villains, gorgeous vistas, and smart puzzles-- go off the main path to find the best stuff in dastardly optional tombs. Though the mandatory combat doesn't distinguish itself with challenging enemies unless you crank up the difficulty, Lara's newfound versatility on the battlefield makes fighting a lot more fun. Once again it's Lara's herself, however, who steals the show, her complex ambitions and hardened resolve showing new sides to a character who has well and truly grown from survivor to the most fascinating action hero in video games today."
The site further complimented the video game for being able to maintain its luster since its initial release.
