Rio 2016 Olympics Recap, Memorable Moments: Wedding Proposals And More

Just as how the past Olympics events were memorable, this year's Rio Olympics has had its own share of memorable events, too.

Now that the event is over, it is time to hark back to some of the most unforgettable moments from this year's Games.

1.       Isadora Cerullo of the Brazilian women's team proposed to her long-time girlfriend Marjorie Enya, and she said yes before the end of the inaugural Olympic women's rugby sevens event. Love won!

2.       Team GB swimmer Adam Peaty won his record-breaking gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke.

3.       Syrian refugee swimmer Yusra Mardini represented his country in the swimming event. He was one of those who swam from Syria to take refuge in Greece about a year ago.

4.       Britain had its first gold medal in the event when divers Jack Laugher and Chris Mears made a synchronized splash.

5.       Chinese diver Qin Kai proposed to his girlfriend after she won a silver medal in the Women's 3m Springboard Final event.

6.       Lovers Laure Trott and Jason Kenny celebrated their golds in cycling events with a kiss.

7.       Egyptian beach volleyball athlete Doaa Elghobashy competed while wearing a hijab.

8.       North and South Korean gymnasts Lee Eun-ju and Hong Un Jong posed together for a photograph.

9.       Great Britain's Max Whitlock brought home GB's first gymnastics gold.

10.    Islam El-Shehaby was sent home after refusing to shake hands with his Israeli opponent.

11.    Raised in Rio's slums, Rafaela Silva fell to her knees after winning gold in judo.

12.    Tennis star Andy Murray took the gold medal in the men's singles.

13.    USA's Abbey D'Agostino and New Zealand's Nikki Hamblin collided and captured the Olympic spirit.

14.    Shaunae Miller of Bahama gave her all in the last moments of the Women's 400m Final when she dived over the finish line to win gold.

15.    Great Britain's Mo Farah won gold in the Men's 5000m finals.

16.    US gymnast Simone Biles bagged four golds and a bronze in gymnastics event.

17.    Nicola Adams of Great Britain won gold in Women's Fly final bout, beating France's Sarah Ourahmoune.

18.    British triathlete brothers Alistair Brownlee and Jonny Brownlee took gold and silver in Men's Triathlon at Fort Copacabana in Rio.

19.    Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe dressed up as videogame character Mario at the Rio Olympics' closing ceremony, during which it was announced that the 2020 Games will be hosted in Tokyo, Japan.
