Ridley Scott to Release New Film Based on Biblical King David (VIDEO)
Legendary director Ridley Scott plans on releasing a new 'King David' movie after the release of the upcoming Exodus: Gods and Kings movie.
The 76-year-old producer has reportedly chosen Jonathan Stokes to pen the script based on the greatest underdog in history.
David, the young shepherd boy who stunned the world when he slew the evil Philistine giant Goliath after he blasphemed the name of God in front of the Israeli and Philistine armed forces.
David would later become the second King of Israel after the original monarch Saul and his son Jonathan (who was also David's best friend and brother-in-law) was killed on the battlefield against the rival Philistine army.
King David is also famous for being a direct ancestor of Jesus Christ's human nature; when Jesus became a human being in order to die on the cross for the sinners and save all humanity from eternal damnation in Hell.
David's son Solomon would later rule in his place after his death. David's son Solomon gained wisdom after God told him, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you" after he became the new monarch of Israel.
Solomon replied with the following response after he replaced his father after God promised David that Solomon would succeed him and build the first temple in Israel- Solomon's Temple.
"You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day. Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?", said Solomon to God, according to 1 Kings 3: 6-9 in the Bible [New International Version (NIV)].
As a result of his wise response, God immediately gave him the following response:
"Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for-both wealth and honor-so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life," said the Lord to David's wise successor in a dream, according to 1 Kings 3: 11-14 in the Bible.
Ridley Scott's production company Scott Free will work with Chernin Entertainment when the film will be eventually produced.
No cast or release date has been revealed for Scott's future 'King David' film. However, Scott's other Biblical film Exodus: Gods and Kings starring Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, Sir Ben Kingsley and Sigourney Weaver will arrive in theaters on December 14.
