'Rick And Morty' Season 3 News: Upcoming Season Set For Late 2016 Release

Avid fans of "Rick and Morty" don't have to wait for 2017 to arrive to watch their favorite adult animated comedy series, as its creators have confirmed that it is set to return later this year.

At the San Diego Comic Con 2016, series creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland confirmed that season 3 is set to return soon despite the difficulties in production.

Harmon and Roiland revealed that making the upcoming season is far more difficult than the two previous seasons, and while they have already started working on season 3, the outcome failed to meet their standards. Hence, they had to make some tweaks on it to ensure viewer satisfaction.

"It's been harder this season. I watched the thumbnail animatic of Episode 304 and I was ready to move forward with it and Ryan said we're not satisfied with it and we were already behind schedule. There's a weird higher calling there and it's not an endless perfectionism because you know when something finally clicks and you go 'this is a good episode of TV.' But it's not just me and I was very happy to find that out," said Harmon, as Cinema Blend reports.

The series creators also revealed that the upcoming season may bring back some characters, including Meeseeks, the little blue creature that was featured in season 1.

Some reports also claim that season 3 will feature a spoof of "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

In the season 2 finale, Mr. Poopy Butthold said that it would return in a year or a year and a half. However, "Rick and Morty" season 3 has already been confirmed to return in late 2016.
