'Resident Evil 7' Release Date News: New Installment Goes Back To Horror Roots; New Gameplay To Be Revealed At E3 2016
A new "Resident Evil" is now in the works, and it is reportedly going to return to its horror roots. This was revealed by Katan Games CEO Dr. Serkan Toto via his Twitter account, who further disclosed that the sequel will be presented next month at E3 2016.
In 2012, the game slightly shifted from its original horror theme to action for its sixth installment. The deviation resulted in general displeasure among fans, as evidenced by the significant decrease in sales.
Now that zombies are widely considered as the foremost pop culture nightmare, the creators of the game have decided to retrace "Resident Evil's" popularity in its extremely thrilling survival horror theme. The generally poor reception of the most recent titles in the "Resident Evil" franchise has prompted the game creators and developers to perform a total makeover in "Resident Evil 7," especially now that this era makes available complex remastering technology for developing games.
According to game producer Masachika Kawata, the game developer considers getting valuable input from fans and the media as they come up with the new installment.
"I think we'll get a lot of input from the fanbase and the media on what it means for Resident Evil, and what it could mean for the future of the series, once Revelations was released," said Kawata.
He added that fans can expect the next installment to offer something a lot scarier than the previous titles.
The project is now under the same game designer who collaborated with Kojima Productions on "Metal Gear Solid 4" and "PT," Jordan Amaro.
Meanwhile, Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto revealed that they plan to release PS4 and Xbox One versions of Resident Evil 4 and 5 this year, in line with the celebration of Resident Evil franchise's 20th anniversary.
