'Resident Evil 7' Latest News, Rumors: Game’s M Rating Removed By ESRB, Board Explains Why
The latest details on Capcom's "Resident Evil 7" include the game play weapons and the game's rating.
"Resident Evil 7" got an M Rating, according to Twitter user and video game enthusiast Wario64 (@Wario64). On Aug 26, Wario64 tweeted a screenshot from the Entertainment Software Rating Board or ESRB and in caption, he wrote that the title was ESRB rated.
In terms of rating, the ESRB rated "Resident Evil 7" as rated M or Mature. As per the description, "Resident Evil 7" involves the usage of weapons, such as shotguns, pistols, explosives, flamethrowers, and chainsaws to take down mutant creatures. Also, the game's battle system features pain screams, gunfire, and blood-splatter effects, which are reportedly exaggerated.
"Resident Evil 7" also gained an M Rating, due to cutscenes that reflect gore acts of violence. Cases in point include cutting a character's arm with a chainsaw, taking a man;s leg with a shovel, and impaling someone's face, along with mutilated corpses. Such visual features are accompanied by profane language, such as curse words.
ESRB removed the listing on its official website, but the board defended its move. In a statement, as cited by IGN, the board said that it had removed "Resident Evil 7" rating information from its website, as Capcom had requested the rating information to be removed and they were working with them to determine a new posting date.
The board also mentioned that the rating was accurate and had been posted as part of their regular process for ratings announcement, following their assignment.
Capcom's "Resident Evil 7" is set to be released for the Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and PlayStation 4 on Jan. 24, 2017.
