Republican House Set To Block President Obama's Immigration Policy
In the Republican House's disagreement with U.S. President Obama's recent immigration policies, they now make moves to block his actions. On that note, it seems as though the White House has threatened to veto their bill.
The House is in cohorts to use the Department of Homeland Security spending bill to defund and undo the president's immigration plans.
In response to the president's actions, House Speaker, Boehner expressed his view on Tuesday:
"We're voting to block the president's overreach, his executive overreach, which I believe is beyond his constitutional duty and frankly violates the Constitution itself. This is not about the issue of immigration. What it is about is the president acting lawlessly."
House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md described the Repulican's actions to be "indefensible" and "irresponsible".
"Democrats, and even some Republicans, warn that the effort to wage the immigration fight during debate over a DHS spending bill risks vital security funding - at a time when the department is ramping up security measures in the wake of the Paris terror attacks. Current DHS funding expires at the end of February," writes Fox News.
Democrats who support the president find the Republican's plans weak and unlikely to be successful.
Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., compared it to trying to "poke the president with a stick." She predicts the bill will be vetoed and dropped in the end.
Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Calif., who chairs the Congressional Hispanic Caucus also looked down on the Republican's attempt.
"Shame on Republicans for attacking the Latino community," Sanchez said. "Republicans are consciously targeting millions of families who work hard, contribute to our communities and are just trying to give their children a chance at the American dream."
Obama's immigration bill will not only reprieve millions of illegal immigrants deportation, but give many a chance to find work and provide for their families.
