Fresh off a 4-1 home victory over the weekend against Real Sociedad, La Liga leaders Real Madrid looks to extend their slim one-point lead at the top of the standings when they face Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

A win for Real could inch them closer to ending Atletico's title reign, especially if they overcome Diego Simone's troops on Saturday's Madrid Derby.

It won't be a cakewalk by any stretch, though, as Unai Emery's squad has won all but one of their last eight top-flight outings. Sevilla is riding the momentum of a 3-2 victory against Espanyol last Sunday, which furthered their hopes of getting a top-four finish, and book a return to the UEFA Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo is still out serving the final match of his suspension (he has 18 goals in 12 appearances against Sevilla), while Modric, Pepe, and Coentrao are all expected to miss the game with various injuries.

"The team will be more or less unchanged from the game against Real Sociedad," said Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, who hailed the play of Frenchman Karim Benzema after scoring twice on Saturday.

Mike Platania of ManagingMadrid.com opines that if Madrid wants to create more separation from the La Liga pack, they must focus on the Denis Suarez-Carlos Bacca connection. Bacca is Sevilla's top goal scorer with 12, while the Barcelona loanee has been to known to push the ball forward.

Vitolo and Aleix Vidal are both dangerous from both sides, as they have proved often this season with their quick scoring exploits.

"We play to win, not just to offer a good image of ourselves, but naturally by playing well, we'll have more options of winning," said Emery.

The matchup will be the first league meeting between the two sides. Last August, Real Madrid topped Sevilla 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup. They also gave Sevilla a 7-3 trashing in the 2013-2014 season.
