Real Madrid vs Eibar Recap, News: Final Score 3-0, Easy Win for Real Madrid
Real Madrid may have had their sights set on bigger foes, but it certainly didn't show Saturday as Real cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win against visiting Eibar to increase the pressure on Liga leaders Barcelona.
Things began to look promising a day before the match when Cristiano Ronaldo's yellow card for diving against Rayo Vallecano was overturned, which made him available for Saturday.
Ahead of their crucial tiff with Atletico Madrid, Real coach Carlo Ancelotti decided to rest a number of his key players. Hernandez was thrust into a starting role, along with Illarramendi and Jese, while Keylor Navas manned to goal ahead of veteran Iker Casillas.
Eibar looked to have scored a stunning opening goal in the ninth minute, but officials decided that Raul Navas fouled Varane before the goal. Six minutes later, Ronaldo created an electric buzz after nearly connecting on a spectacular bicycle attempt. He would get his goal in the 21st minute with a free kick just outside the area, a strike that Eibar keeper Xabi Irureta should have done a better job at.
It would be followed by a goal from Hernandez 10 minutes later, giving Real a comfortable lead against a team that looked truly overwhelmed. And despite taking their foot off the gas pedal in the second half, evidently looking forward to the match against their neighbors, Jese managed a brilliant strike in the 83rd minute for the final score of the game.
"Everything went to plan and we head into the Champions League in good form," Ancelotti said.
As noted by Squawka Football, Hernandez has been incredibly efficient this season in La Liga, scoring four goals on just six shots on target. He nearly added a second goal in the 76th minute after a great ball by Pepe, but his shot just went over the crossbar.
