Ray Allen NBA 2015 News: Superstar Free Agent Says He Will Not Play This Season

After weighing his options, the NBA's all-time leader in three pointers made, Ray Allen, has made a decision"”he won't be playing in the NBA, at least not this season.

As reported by the Associated Press, the two-time NBA champion announced Wednesday that he will not be signing with any playoff contending franchise for the 2014-2015 season, but was open to the possibility of returning next season.

"Over the past several months, I have taken a lot of time to deliberate what is best for me," the future Hall of Famer said in a released statement, "I've ultimately decided that I will not play in this NBA season."

Dating back to the offseason, the 10-time All-Star has been the subject of constantly swirling rumors and speculation. At one point, Allen's agent Jim Tanner felt compelled to post on social media that his client had signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Allen has been linked with the Cavs from the time LeBron James, Allen's Miami Heat teammate, announced his return to Cleveland. The speculation only heightened when James brought with him a number of his Heat teammates.

"Ray has received enormous interest from a number of NBA teams throughout this season. We will communicate with interested teams as Ray makes a decision for the 2015-2016 season," Tanner said.

Allen will be turning 40 on July 20, but has been known for his elite conditioning his entire career. As the AP report points out, many of his social media posts in recent months have been related to his workouts, and his advocacy to encourage others to think more about their fitness.

Allen is most recently remembered for his huge corner three-pointer with 5.2 seconds left in Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. The shot sent the game into overtime, and the Heat eventually won the title in seven games.

In 1,300 regular season games, Allen carries averages of 18.9 points.
