'Rampage' Movie News: Dwayne Johnson to Star in Video Game to Film Adaptation

There seems to be no slowing up for action star Dwayne Johnson as he's already has sights to star in the 'Rampage' adaptation film.

The project will be based off the classic '80s Midway arcade game where two humans are mutated into either a giant gorilla, giant lizard monster, or giant wolf, wreaking havoc on the city. Fans of the actor will recognize that he's just released another city disaster film titled 'San Andreas.'

"They are keeping the plot under wraps, but the game involves three giant monsters-a gorilla, a lizard and a wolf-that wreak havoc on major cities and landmarks across North America. The formidable Johnson gets in their way. Johnson, Flynn and New Line are coming off San Andreas, the earthquake disaster film which has shaken loose $415 million in global ticket sales so far," writes Deadline.

While the studio scrambles to find a director to helm the project, the script has already been written by 'Non-Stop' writer Ryan Engle. Beau Flynn and John Rickard set to both produce.

"The plan is for Johnson to star in this film after he completes production on Fast & Furious 8 as Johnson continues to generate franchises at a rate Ray Kroc might envy. Johnson is working for New Line right now, shooting Central Intelligence alongside Kevin Hart. This will be the fourth collaboration for Johnson and Flynn after the New Line sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and Paramount/MGM's Hercules. Richard Brener, Michael Disco, and Sam Brown will oversee for New Line," writes Deadline.

No release date has been announced for the film, however 'Furious 8' plans to go into production early next year, meaning fans can expect the 'Rampage' adaptation production to follow right after.
