'Purge 3' Release Date News: Movie Gets First Trailer, 'The Purge: Election Year' Set To Come In July

Universal Studios has launched the first trailer for the third movie in "The Purge" franchise. Frank Grillo will return as Sergeant Leo Barnes in the movie.

"The Purge: Election Year" is the title of the next film. The story will take place in the White House as well as other locations in D.C. Sergeant Barnes will be the head of security, assigned to protect Senator Charlene Roan, played by Elizabeth Mitchell.

Senator Roan is trying to stop the purge event from happening as she tries to address the matter in congress. A lot of rich people don't approve since they believe that it cleanses the streets from poor people.

Unfortunately, Roan was not able to stop the event from happening and ends up being one of the targets of the night. Now, Barnes has to protect her for 12 hours against everyone who tries to kill her and him as well.

Grillo had a chance to speak with Collider about the upcoming film. He said that he totally liked the script and that the movie is going to be good.

"The script is genius! I love these movies," the 50-year-old actor said. "I wasn't a big fan of the first one, but when [James] DeMonaco sent me the second script and asked me if I wanted to do it, I said, 'Yes, I love this movie!'"
