PS4 Neo News, Specs Rumors: September 7 Release Date Confirmed; Console Not Be Available Until December?
Sony has scheduled an event on Sept. 7 and rumors are going around that it's also the release date for the PS4 Neo. However, the console won't be available for end users until December of this year.
As the rumored specs, the PS4 Neo will have a higher clock speed as well as better GPU. Compared to the 1.6 GHz CPU of the PS4, the Neo will have 2.1 GHz. The GDDR5 memory will also be much faster, which is at 8 GB at 218GB/s.
It's also expected to play 4K videos, judging from the fact that Xbox One S has already a similar capability. However, there's no news that can confirm this speculation.
The arrival of the Neo 4.5 console doesn't mean that the PS4 will be phased out, however. According to Sony, it will promote both consoles to their different niche markets. Games from hereon will be labeled either for the Neo or the PS4 to make sure that there would be no confusion in the purchase.
The release date for the PS4 Neo is largely anticipated because it's supposed to maximize the experience for those who want to purchase the PlayStation VR. Sadly, the PS4 is just not powerful enough for the headset.
A source by Edge magazine confirmed this bit of news, as shared by IBTimes, who said that the Playstation VR would be "terrible" on the PlayStation 4.
"It was going to be truly awful. Something a bit more powerful starts to bring VR into range," the source claimed. "If you want to deal with crazy requirements for performance in VR, you absolutely have to do this."
More news and rumors on the PS4 Neo will come out of the woodworks as the Sept. 7 release date nears. So watch out.
