Project Tango Smartphone News: Google & Qualcomm Team Up to Launch New Handset in 2015
Global semiconductor manufacturer Qualcomm Incorporated has announced that it is lending a hand to the search engine giant Google to pack its Project Tango into a smaller form factor - particularly a new smartphone that is scheduled to be released later in 2015.
According to Tech Radar, Google's Project Tango is concentrates on increased reality, for instance digital graphics positioned above the real world, as well as virtual reality, which is a completely digital world. As of now, this technology has been solely made available through an Nvidia tablet.
Similar to the Nvidia tablet, the upcoming Project Tango smartphone will actually target the developers instead of the common consumers. This is simply because of the fact that the technology as well as the smartphone based on it is not yet really ready for the use of consumers. Nevertheless, anyone in the United States who is interested in it can purchase a development kit if they desire.
3D space
Compared to any regular mobile phone, it is necessary for the Project Tango device to know precisely where it is as well as where it is pointing in 3D space much more. Hence, incorporating this kind of technology into a smartphone, which is really a smaller form factor, is no mean achievement.
According to Qualcomm, the upcoming smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 810 and the Adreno 430 GPU - the same combination that is found in several flagship smartphones released this year.
Announcing the new device at the recently concluded Google I/O 2015, Raj Talluri of Qualcomm said, "We're excited to work together with Google and Android developers to help deliver new, innovative visual experiences using depth-sensing technology on mobile devices."
The upcoming device will be similar to a tablet, but much smaller in size, Qualcomm said.
