Project Morpheus VR Headset News: What You Should Know About Sony’s Upcoming Device & More
Japanese Electronics Entertainment giant Sony confirmed at the Game Developers Conference 2015 held in March that it would make Project Morpheus, the virtual reality (VR) headset, available for sale in 2016. Nevertheless, Sony is yet to make an official announcement regarding the precise release date of the much-anticipated VR device.
Chrisitian Today reports that though the exact release date is still unknown, it is certain that the Morpheus will not be created for "non-gaming content." This was confirmed by Sony's Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida.
In fact, this suggests that users of the upcoming VR headset will require a fully-loaded personal computer or PlayStation 4 (PS4) to take pleasure in games that support the headset.
As far as the smartphone usage is concerned, Yoshida confirmed that this will not be possible. It is essential for display on Morpheus to run on 120Hz to allow the player to enjoy a smooth visuals display of a game.
As the PlayStation 4 supports various hubs, one will be able to watch 3D movies and also experience different entertainment content using Project Morpheus.
In terms of the price of the upcoming VR headset, Sony has announced that it is too early to reveal the pricing. However, Yoshida said that the price of Morpheus was discussed during a recent interview with Game Industry.
At the same time, Yoshida said that Sony is still working on the cost of goods that cover the Project Morpheus.
In fact, Sony will have to take several factors into consideration regarding the right pricing of Morpheus, provided the company desires to make the VR experience mainstream.
While there is still a very long way to go ahead of the Morpheus 2016 release, but Yoshida said that the device's progress is doing very well. A report in Venture Capital Post claimed that updates were also given to the device with a view to prepare it for its launch in 2016.
Sony announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015 conference that the two games which will support Project Morpheus are 'Rigs' and 'Wayward Sky.'
Apart from the above mentioned games, 'ARK: Survival Evolved,' 'Project CARS,' and 'Among the Sleep' are games that will work well with Sony's VR technology.
