'Princess Diaries 3' News: Disney Makes Plans for Third Addition to Film Series

Fans of The Princess Diaries had better hold on to their seats, as Anne Hathaway may be coming back to the classic movie series that put her on the map.

Disney is finally moving forward with a third Princess Diaries movie, according to a new report.

However, it is not confirmed whether the two stars of the franchise, Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway will be returning to reprise their iconic roles in it.

Hathaway has come quite a ways since the first film was released in 2001.

Since then, she has won an Academy Award for her role in Les Miserables, in 2013, and even though she made an appearance in the second Princess Diaries movie which debuted in 2004, she has denied being involved in a third movie, though rumors have been circulated for years.

Hathaway confessed to fears that the association with the innocent teen character would cause her to be typecasted.

"Because I became so associated with The Princess Diaries, my main [criterion] is to look for the opposite of what I last did," stated the actress.

She made that statement in 2006, so it may be even harder to land her back in the role now that she is an even more established actress.

As it turns out, Disney will be doing a complete reboot of the film, so it is likely that they will not need Hathaway to return to her role.

Julie Andrews has previously said that she would be on board for a third movie, although she did not believe it would be likely that one would exist, knowing Hathaway's disposition on the franchise.
