'Power Rangers' Release Date News, Rumors: Film Gets Pushed Back for Lionsgate Releases

Fans who were in heavy anticipation for the 'Power Rangers' film slated for next year may have to hold on a bit longer for its release.

Recent news has suggested that Lionsgate has moved up its film schedule for a couple of new releases. While the 'Power Rangers' movie was believed to premiere on July 22, 2016, it will now hit theaters on January 13th, 2017.

"Screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor) will script the upcoming reboot of Power Rangers, which is described as a modern reinvention of the long-running franchise. In it, a group of ordinary high school kids find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world. Project Almanac's Dean Israelite is in talks to helm the big screen adaptation, which will see original creator Haim Saban acting as producer along with Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur," writes Coming Soon.

The studio has announced a couple of new movies they have up for release, including this summer's film, 'American Ultra,' starring Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg. Here's the movie's synopsis:

A stoner and his girlfriend's sleepy, small-town existence is disrupted when his past comes back to haunt him in the form of a government operation set to wipe him out.

The other three announced includes Robert DeNiro and Zac Efron's 'Dirty Grandpa,' dated for February 26, 2016, The sci-fi thriller 'Criminal,' dated for January 22, 2016, and Alex Proyas' 'God of Egypt,' coming to theaters on April 8th, 2016.

Lionsgate has also announced a musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone called 'La La Land' for future release. The film's synopsis follows:

"In this modern take on the Hollywood musical from Damien Chazelle, the Academy Award-nominated writer and director of WHIPLASH, Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone) are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart."
