Portland Trail Blazers NBA 2015 News, Rumors: Franchise Wants Ray Allen to Replace Wesley Matthews?

In the wake of Portland Trail Blazers' sharpshooter Wes Matthews' devastating Achilles injury, the team reportedly looked into possibly replacing him with one of the NBA's best three-point shooter in league history.

As Yahoo Sports reports, Blazers' general manager Neil Olshey reached out to agent Jim Tanner, inquiring if his client Ray Allen might reconsider his previously announced decision to sit out the rest of the 2014-2015 season.

Despite the Blazers, currently sitting at fourth place in the highly competitive Western Conference, being a potentially ideal landing spot for the all-time league leader in three-pointers made, Tanner told the Blazers that Allen intends to keep with his decision to sit out the rest of the season.

For the season, Matthews has been shooting just a shade under 39 percent from deep, averaging close to three makes per game, along with his 15.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and always dependable defense.

Apart from requiring more from superstar LaMarcus Aldridge (playing injured with a torn ligament in his left thumb) and first time All-Star Damian Lillard, the Blazers will have to rely on the crew of recently acquired Arron Afflalo, C.J. McCollum, Alonzo Gee, Allen Crabbe, and Dorrel Wright to fill the void left by Matthews.

The Blazers just had a five-game winning streak snapped, and are at 41-20, just a game behind the third place Houston Rockets.

In his last full season in the NBA with the Miami Heat, the 39-year-old Allen had regular season averages of 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2 assists per game, while shooting 37.5 percent from three.

Former Heat teammate LeBron James recently passed Allen for 21st on the NBA's all-time scoring list, passing Allen's mark of 24,505 career points.

Throughout the course of this season, Allen's name has come up in rumors of teams looking to sign him to shore up their shooting and veteran leadership.
