'Pokkén Tournament' Latest News: New Fighting Game to Arrive on Nintendo Wii U in July 2016 [VIDEO]

Once a simple role playing game (RPG) about pocket monsters, now 'Pokkén' is among the most famous names in pop cultures. Apart from reaching several forms of media, 'Pokkén' has been the inspiration behind several animated series, films, card game, toys and many more. Soon, the most anticipated adaptation of the franchise will come in the form of a novel fighting game titled 'Pokkén Tournament.'

Citing a report in Polygon, IB Times states that the "Pokémon" Company recently announced at the 2-15 "Pokémon" World Championships that the arcade game exclusive to Japan will be released for the Nintendo Wii U, in July 2016. 'Pokkén Tournament' is the latest entry in the "Pokémon" franchise, which is largely inspired by the popular fighting series 'Tekken.' Precisely speaking, the upcoming game has been developed by Bandi Namco which also offered 'Tekken.' The new fighting game pits players against one another employing various characters from the 'Pokémon' franchise.

Gamespost quotes a statement issued by "Pokémon" Company that reads, "In 'Pokkén Tournament,' Pokémon appear more lifelike than ever before, with amazing graphics and smooth, fluid movements." In addition to the announcement, the company also divulged that a new character - Pikachu Libre, will be added to the roster. Basically, this new character is the usual Pikachu, but he dons a mask and a costume that is appropriate for a Lucha Libre Wrestler. However, it is still not known whether or not Pikachu Libre will have his individual set of skills, as he may perhaps just be an alternate costume to Pikachu.

In addition to Pikachu Libre, 'Pokkén Tournament' will also incorporate other popular 'Pokkén' characters such as Machop, Charizard, Lucario, Gengar and Blaziken. A trailer of the game reveals that the 'Pokémon' will possess the aptitude to make use of mega evolutions during battle.

However, different from 'Tekken,' the new game offers players full mobility in the arenas where the fight takes places. Players are able to traverse the area freely and smoothly, which makes the game more action-packed compared to 'Tekken.'
