'Pokémon GO' Japan Launch News: Real-Life ‘Pokemon’ Journey Game Delayed Due To Leaked E-Mail?
Most casual gamers and avid "Pokémon" gamers are excited for the release of Nintendo and Niantic's "Pokémon GO." However, it looks like the title is not yet landing in Japan yet.
"Pokémon GO" Japan was set to go live on July 20, Tech Crunch reports. However, things changed when the companies behind the title turn down the plan. A source close to launch told the publication that a prime reason behind the delay was that the internal communication from the game sponsor, McDonald's Japan.
As per the source, McDonald's detailed the launch information, which reportedly reached internet forum websites like Japan's Reddit, 2ch, and image website Imgur.
It was revealed that the initial morning launch schedule was delayed to early afternoon according to the viral e-mail. Nonetheless, the companies just decided to cancel the game's launch on Wednesday because a potential game server overload secondary to the level of hype generated by the leaked mail.
According to Reuters, the cancellation of "Pokémon GO's" Japan release adversely affected Nintendo's shares. As per the publication, the company lost 27,765 yen, which is equivalent to $261, due to the delay. However, Nintendo's stock still managed to gain 86 percent following its launch in the United States earlier this month and it reportedly boosted its market capitalization by $17 billion.
Meanwhile, Nintendo is maintaining the hype of its fans with the upcoming release of its "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon." Based in Hawaii, the titles serve as the seventh generation video game titles from the Pokémon Company. The games are also playable on the Nintendo 3DS and N3DS.
For the time being, players will have to choose among Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio as they start their journey in "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" on Nov. 18.
