Playstation Vue News: Sony to Launch in Three Select U.S. Cities for Testing
On Thursday, Sony announced that it is ready to release its new online TV streaming service to a few select cities before making it available for everyone who owns a PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4.
Three U.S. cities, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia, will be first to test out PlayStation Vue. The service is an 85 channel package starting at $50 per month. Deals with CBS, Discovery Communications, Fox, NBCUniversal, Scripps Networks Interactive, Turner Broadcasting, Viacom and AMC Networks were made with Sony to be included in the package.
Two other packages will also be made available. The Core package is priced at $60 and includes local sports channels, and the Elite package is priced at $70 for over 85 channels.
Noted are missing big time networks such as ABC, HBO and Showtime. Amit Nag, head of business for Sony PlayStation Vue said, "This is not an overnight thing. We felt we had a lineup that was ready to launch. We are always talking to all our partners about new ways to distribute our programming but we don't get into specifics with each."
Other unique features to come to the service are the cloud based DVR that stores an unlimited number of recording for 28 days and an advanced guide that lets users organize their favorite show with ease.
According to IF Press, beta testers gave it a 90% satisfaction rating. PlayStation Vue will launch globally within the weeks and months to come and can be used with up to three PlayStation consoles at a time. The recommended 10-megabit-per-second Internet connection is essential for prospective consumers to have.
PlayStation owners outside of New York, Chicago and Philadelphia are eager to try out this new TV streaming service provided by Sony.
