Recent technological advancements have made it possible to develop full immersion gaming consoles. Virtual reality gaming and simulations are now for household use. The cutting edge technology of virtual reality is not anymore limited to laboratories and prototypes. The future is here. Sony is among the companies that are taking the virtual reality technology to a wider user demographic.

PlayStation VR is Sony's answer to the Oculus Rift as the company expands and transitions to full immersion gaming. Sony has recently focused on developing and showcasing games for PlayStation VR. The virtual reality headset is designed for the PlayStation 4 gaming console. However, it is also being developed to be used not only in games.

PlayStation VR is set to be unveiled in 2016, offering more than just enhancing the gaming experience. Shuhei Yoshida , the Sony president of Worldwide Studios was recently quoted in GameSpot that the company is conceptualizing other features of the gadget. However, the exact details regarding the "other features" are still sketchy at the moment.

Yoshida said that the price and the specs of the system will be revealed before the headset is released in the market. PlayStation VR is scheduled to be commercially available in the first half of 2016. 

The virtual reality system will be marketed not only as a new gaming platform but also as interface for other apps such as support for Netflix and Twitch streaming services. Gaming enthusiasts will be kept in a cliffhanger until the actual release of the headset.
