Playstation Mobile News: Sony Will Pull the Plug on Game Service in September 2015
On Wednesday, March 11, Sony announced that its online shopping platform PlayStation Mobile will cease to exist on September 10 of 2015
Despite its best efforts, PlayStation Mobile has struggled to attract a fan base for its services. According to Sony, the program will stop publishing games on July 15. PlayStation Mobile was specifically designed for the PlayStation Vita and a variety of Android devices such as Sony's Experia smartphones and tablets.
As well as being an online shopping platform, PlayStation Mobile was also a support and development platform for indie games. Indie games are games that are made by small teams that look for funding and sourcing to produce their own video game. Companies, like Sony, have been more than helpful to reach out their hands to these small developers and have created some great content throughout the years.
However, users do not need to worry about losing all of their games. They can re-download their games and buy new ones until the September 10 deadline. Also if they do not want to see their games gone, Sony released guidelines via their website as to how to activate all of the games.
Users need to go to their Settings menu and then click to System Activation. Then they go to PlayStation Mobile, Activate and press OK. They have from now until the deadline to activate their games in order to keep them.
PlayStation Mobile was officially launched in 2012. Sony felt the disappointment almost immediately as users complained about the service. Those who wanted to publish through Sony were also frustrated with the intense process to even be certified. In 2013, Sony disbanded the fees for companies to get certified and made major updated to the app, but it looks like the company is ready to call it quits.
