'Pitch Perfect 3' Release Date: 'Step Up All In' Director Trish Sie Agreed To Direct Upcoming Installment?

It was reported back in June that "Pitch Perfect 2" producer and director Elizabeth Banks had already vacated her post as director of the third film." The former director cited parental responsibilities as her primary reason for leaving. Banks announced via her Twitter account that she will vacate the directorial post but will return as a producer for "Pitch Perfect 3."

In her previous interview with Time, Banks shared her thoughts about the pressure of being at the helm of a massive money-making franchise.

"I felt ready and wanted to do it, of course, but I also felt like once I said yes, I couldn't screw up. There was definitely that pressure. It is very rare, and because it's rare, I unfortunately-- whether I like it or not-- am taking on a role here...if I didn't do it well, they would absolutely say, "If she couldn't do it, I guess women can't do it!"

Following a lengthy search, it looks like Universal and Gold Circle have finally found someone to take Banks' place.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that "Step Up All In" director Trish Sie has agreed to do the project after first "Pitch Perfect" director Jason Moore passed on the opportunity to her. While Sie has only the "Step Up" movie credit to her name, she is an acclaimed choreographer and has done several music videos for OK Go such as the popular hit "Upside Down & Inside Out."

The third installment of "Pitch Perfect" is set for release on December 22, 2017.
