'Pitch Perfect 2' was made on a $29 million budget, while the movie earned more than $250 million at the box office across the globe. Hence, it is not surprising the Universal Pictures has given the green signal for the third installment of the franchise.

Christian Today quotes a report in the Hollywood Reporter, which confirmed that scriptwriter Kay Cannon, who penned the screenplay for the first two films, has consented to write the script for 'Pitch Perfect 3.' Nevertheless, as of now, it appears that Cannon is the only one from the original production who will also be on board the upcoming Universal Studio project. On the other hand, there is no news confirming the return of actress Elizabeth Banks as the director of the musical franshise. Banks was at the helm of 'Pitch Perfect 2.'

While Universal Pictures is yet to announce the cast for 'Pitch Perfect 3,' in April, Collider reported that Rebel Wilson had already signed on to reprise her role as humorous soloist Fat Amy.

According to Christian Post, it would certainly be a challenge for the makers of the upcoming film to get back Beca (Anna Kendrick), Fat Amy, as well as the remaining members of the acapella choir together, as nearly everyone of them have graduated from college in 'Pitch Perfect 2.' In addition, the production will also be required to do some hard work in order to negotiate with the cast to reprise their characters, as Kendrick as well as Wilson reportedly asked for $2 million payments each for 'Pitch Perfect 2,' which was released recently.

In other words, this suggests that the production will be required to disburse more in order to bring back the breakout stars for the upcoming film.

On the other hand, in case Beca does not agree to return to 'Pitch Perfect 3' to lead the Barden Bellas, it is expected that new legacy Bella Emily Junk will take over her character in the next film. It is expected that actress Hailee Steinfield will portray the character of Emily.

As of now, the studio has also not made any official announcement regarding the precise release date of 'Pitch Perfect 3.'
