Pink News: Singer Supports Planned Parenthood Amid Controversy
Singer Pink recently showed one side of her that she normally doesn't speak much of that is her support on some organizations like the Planned Parenthood. Rumors sparked when an anti-abortion group released a video footage allegedly showing PP employees discussing the sale of fetal body parts for research.
The accusations are apparently the reason why all of a sudden the mother of one spoke up and stood for the organization she supports. "Planned Parenthood was the only organization in my town growing up available to teach young girls @ sexual responsibility," the 35-year-old "Just Give Me One Reason" singer-songwriter wrote on her Twitter account adding, "I stand with PP."
The group who are facing such strong accusations coming from different people including some Republicans who are reportedly asking the government to cut its federal funding. The government reportedly funds the group since they have been providing medical services for reproductive and other women's health issues, including abortions, for almost 100 years.
After the issue went out, the President of PP Cecile Richards instantly released a statement denying the accusations saying, "The allegation that Planned Parenthood profits in any way from tissue donation is not true," Richards said while Eric Ferrero, the group's vice president of communications explains further that the organization helps parents who want to donate tissue for scientific research and with their "full, appropriate consent" and "under the highest ethical and legal standards."
The organization clarified as well that there is no way that they will make profit in this kinds of situations. "There is no financial benefit for tissue donation for either the patient or for Planned Parenthood," Richards continued. "In some instances, actual costs, such as the cost to transport tissue to leading research centers, are reimbursed, which is standard across the medical field."
Meanwhile as the issue remains at the height of attention, Pink also posted yet another message on Twitter writing, "Do these Rep. hopefuls plan on visiting every town in America handing out pamphlets, hugs, life saving info + screening?!" she wrote adding, "What's their plan?"
The singer also defended the organization from a follower questioning PP. One wrote, "@Pink I like the idea that someone might support people when they need help, but I don't like PP selling baby parts for cash," While Pink right away answered writing, "Are you for real?" Pink wrote adding, "Did you hear that on Fox News?"
