Phoenix Suns NBA Trade Rumors 2015: Goran Dragic Wants Out - 'I Don’t Trust Them Anymore'
Phoenix Suns guard Goran Dragic is not so far removed from his stellar play that led to All-NBA Third Team Honors, but with the trade deadline looming, his trade value cannot be lower.
The development stems from the Slovenian guard making it clear he will not be re-signing with the Suns next season after his contract expires. This puts enormous pressure on the Suns to make a move before Thursday's deadline, or risk losing the 28-year-old with nothing in return.
"I don't trust them anymore," Dragic said after Wednesday's practice.
"To be a point guard, to run the team and have the ball in my hands and try to make plays for others, that's who I am."
The Suns became the NBA's surprise story last year after winning 48 games, and just barely missing the playoffs. But the offseason acquisition of another point guard in Isaiah Thomas has led to less touches and a dip across the board in Dragic's production this season.
"Last year was great. This is year, it's different. Standing in the corner, that's not my game," he said.
The Suns are now scrambling to find a trade partner for Dragic, although getting enough in return would be a problem, since teams can just wait for his contract to expire and sign him to a five-year $100 million deal.
Dragic's agent Bill Duffy has informed the Suns that his client's preferred destinations include the Los Angeles Lakers, the New York Knicks, and the Miami Heat.
The Lakers and the Knicks do not have the assets to trade for Dragic, but have more than enough cap space to sign him in the offseason.
Up until Tuesday, the Suns thought trading Thomas would appease Dragic and make him decide to stay; it has become evident that would not be enough.
For the season, Dragic is averaging 16.2 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.6 rebounds.
