Phoenix Suns NBA 2015 News: Morris Twins Under Investigation in Alleged Assault Case
Phoenix Suns forwards Marcus and Markieff Morris are facing investigation regarding allegations that they were part of a group that beat up a man back in January, the Associated Press reports.
According to police documents recently made available, the Phoenix police are looking at possible aggravated assault charges against the five men in the group suspected of attacking a certain Erik Hood.
The police report states that the 36-year-old Hood was leaving a high school basketball game on Jan. 24 when a friend of the Morris twins approached him. Hood then said he punched in the back of the head while he was speaking with the man.
The report says that Hood ran to his car after the hit, but fell down. The man he was speaking with held him down, as four men, which included the Morris twins, kicked and hit him repeatedly, according to the police report.
A friend rushed Hood to the hospital where he was treated for a fractured nose, abrasions, and a large bump on the head. Witnesses say that all five men left in a Rolls-Royce Phantom as bystanders closed in on the area of the incident.
On Wednesday, Maricopa County prosecutor Bill Montgomery said that his office is reviewing the case and will make a decision on whether charges will be filed within the next couple of weeks, according to the AP report.
"We have no information beyond what has been alleged in the police report and therefore have no further comment on the matter at this time. Our organization will closely monitor developments as the legal process unfolds," the Suns team statement said.
The AP report carries on saying that according to Hood's account, he was close to the brothers while the two were in high school; saying that he coached them and brought them to practices.
Hood adds that the Morris twins cut off communication with him after they found texts suggesting Hood wanted their mother to be his girlfriend. Hood also said that on the day of the attack, the Morris' mother, Tomasine Morris, was texting him.
